Expands Their Conservation Programs
Jacqueline Kingston, Co-Founder
Sea Turtle Adventures, Inc.
This year has kicked off with a bang for Sea Turtle Adventures. With funding from the National Save The Sea Turtle Foundation and other sources, we were able to purchase a new side-by-side ATV (all-terrain vehicle) to support several of our programs. Since the start of the year, we have rescued six seabirds and held 11 beach cleanups with school groups and the general public (totaling nearly 300 participants). In April, we started documenting leatherback and loggerhead sea turtle nests on the three mile section of beach we patrol in southern Palm Beach County. In 2017, we documented our highest count of sea turtle nests on record with 1,077 nests.
Our sea turtle education program (STEP) is gearing up to provide interested members of the public the opportunity to “ride-along” with a sea turtle monitor on a morning nest survey. We continue to provide outreach to community groups and school groups in both the classroom and in the field, and encourage everyone to do their part to help conserve our precious natural resources.

Sea Turtle Adventures (STA) was founded in 2016 when biologist Jacquelyn Kingston, after working with several adults with special needs, recognized that increased conservation awareness can enrich the lives of this underserved audience. For 17 years, Kingston has been part of a group permitted by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to monitor sea turtle nests along a three-mile stretch of beach in southern Palm Beach County. Creating STA offered a way to provide more environmental education through hands-on activities such as beach cleanups, observation of turtle nesting/monitoring, and presentations that effectively engage adults with disabilities in the community.
